Electricity

Overview

Electricity first came to Easton in 1887, but was not under Town jurisdiction until 1915. The Electric Department now provides service to over 10,000 customers in a 54 square mile service territory. Easton Utilities' electrical system is connected to the PJM Interconnection, L.L.C. (PJM) power pool, where we purchase our electricity on an hourly basis. Easton also owns 16 diesel/natural gas generators and operates them to offset costs during times of high-priced PJM energy. Easton's current installed electrical generation capacity is 70 megawatts.

During normal demand periods, Easton Utilities has adequate generation to cover the load of the service territory should we become disconnected from the PJM. To provide for our future electric needs, we built an additional 10 megawatts of generation in Fall 2004. As your public power utility, Easton Utilities works hard and takes pride in keeping our energy prices as low as possible.
