Easton Cable's lineup will not change as a result of a contract dispute between MTV Networks' parent, Viacom, and Time Warner Cable, a cable provider in other parts of the country. On Wednesday morning, Easton Cable viewers saw a message scrolling at the bottom of several channels telling customers that Time Warner Cable plans to drop 19 MTV Networks channels tonight. The message was generated by Viacom. Due to the method by which cable programming is distributed, the message is playing not only on Time Warner cable systems, but on other systems not involved in the dispute.
"Easton Cable has a contract for all 19 of the MTV Networks channels and has no plans to interrupt them as a result of this dispute," said Bill Russell, manager of Easton Cable. "We are disappointed that Viacom created confusion among cable customers not impacted by their negotiations with Time Warner."
Mr. Russell added that he has contacted Viacom and asked that the on-screen messages be removed from programming distributed to Easton Cable's system.
